Where2Golf says:

The Wanderers Golf Club: Located next door to the Wanderers Stadium, the home of Test match cricket in Johannesburg, the Wanderers Golf Club is another in this city's fine lineage of classical parkland golf courses. Quietly tucked away in the suburb of Illovo, and laid out on pleasantly undulating terrain, trees line many of the holes, although never too densely. The good quality and often elevated greens are well-defended by good-quality bunkering; only occasionally does water also come into play. Small ponds dangerously threaten in front of the green at the par-5 10th, alongside the par-4 11th and again in front of the postage-stamp green of the par-3 12th. The generally good-width fairways occasionally narrow down, as at the par-4 6th, presenting a tighter aspect from the tee. The excellent greens here are generally fast and true, with slopes and borrows that could easily send your ball wandering off its intended line to the hole. Beyond the course you will get a good view of the Wanderers Stadium from the 10th hole, while large houses and villas are arranged around other parts of the course perimeter. You can also catch a glimpse of Johannesburg's downtown skyline from the highest part of the layout, at the par-4 14th and par-3 15th. Maintenance standards are generally good, although in one or two places could be improved a tad. Overall this is a very pleasant and enjoyable course to play, and only a few minutes drive from the centre of Sandton.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.

Did you know?

In addition to the golf course, Wanderers is also the name of the neighbouring cricket stadium - the home of Test Match (international) cricket in Johannesburg. Constructed in 1955, the stadium has hosted cricket at every level of the game, and most notably the Cricket World Cup Final in 2003 (won by Australia who comfortably defeated India). >> The Wanderers Golf Club was originally located closer to the city of Jo'burg, moving to its current location in 1939. The course has hosted many top-level competition, including South African Sunshine Tour events and many South African PGA Championships (last played here in 1995 and won by Ernie Els).
