Did you know?

Yeamans Hall Club is named after the original landowner, Sir John Yeamans (1611–1674). Yeamans was an English colonial administrator, described in his day as a "pirate ashore". After establishing plantation interests in Barbados, he became a leading figure in the settlement of a new English colony, the Province of Carolina. Here he established a new plantation, into which he brought 200 African slaves. He was proclaimed Governor of Carolina at Charles Town in 1672. [Carolina was so named from the Latin word for Charles (Carolus), honoring King Charles I of England who made the original land grant in 1629)].
