Where2Golf says:

Real (Royal) Club de Golf El Prat (Amarillo course): Like its sister course, the Rosa, or any other colour combination of El Prat's five 9-hole loops, the Amarillo course is a joy to play, notwithstanding its manifest difficulties and challenges. This afterall is a layout designed for top level championship golf ( ... but playable from any one of seven sets of tees).

The Amarillo (Yellow) course at Royal El Prat comprises the "Piscina" and "Abajo" nines. Apart from at the tree-lined par-5 16th, Greg Norman has opted for an open-terrain, links-style layout, embracing every manner of bunkering, and copious amounts of it. The ground has been left intentionally "rough" and uncultivated between the fairways, although someone no doubt tends to the areas of wheat, growing in the larger "waste areas". Excellent greens, complete with testing run-off areas, are where your score can be made or broken.

The scenery beyond the course (not quite as captivating as on the Rosa layout) comprises mainly rural landscapes, a splendid castle-topped mountain, the Hospital de Terrassa, and a scattering of electricity pylons. On the course there is plenty to hold your undivided attention, especially from the golfing standpoint.

MOST MEMORABLE HOLE: The 18th is a wonderful 426-metre par-4 finishing hole and one of the hardest on the course. This long, uphill hole demands a good drive that should hug the right side of the fairway. This leaves a long iron approach to a long green guarded by a large rightside bunker and a hollow to the left.

Did you know?

The Barcelona Golf Club was originally established in 1912 in Pedralbes, just outside the city centre. The club was the initiative of some amateur golfers ... members of Barcelona’s nobility. Several years later King Alfonso XIII of Spain conferred the Royal prefix on the club.

In 1954, as a consequence of the city's expansion, the club was forced to move to a new location between El Prat de Llobregat and the sea; here the club adopted the name Real Club de Golf El Prat ("RCGP"). The golf course at El Prat de Llobregat was eventually consumed by the ever-expanding Barcelona airport, forcing the club to move again in 2001. The airport's new runways buried many of the fairways ( ... evidence of which can be seen just southeast of the airport).

Real El Prat has hosted numerous top level national and international competitions, and is a regular venue for the Spanish Open Championship (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >El Prat).
