Falsterbo Golfklubb

4+ (4 gold): one of our top-rated 4-star courses, worthy of 4½ stars.

Where2Golf says:

Falsterbo Golfklubb: here at the southern end of the Falsterbo Peninsula you'll find the Oresund strait on one side of you, and the Baltic Sea stretching out on the other. You'll also find one of continental Europe's true links golf courses. Falsterbo occupies a strip of relatively flat sandy links land, pure links indeed, but not endowed with towering sand dunes or energetically rolling terrain.

Tee it up at Falsterbo, and there's no doubting you're at the seaside. There's a large lighthouse (dating from 1795) in the centre of the golf course, small lakes and reed beds flanking several holes, and sea views in abundance. The best of those views come on the back-nine, culminating at the par-4 17th tee, which sits farthest out on the tip of the peninsula.

Although quite flat, Falsterbo's layout keeps you thoroughly absorbed and revelling in links golf from start to finish. Characterised by superb greens, and dotted with a rash of revetted pot bunkers, the layout also retains its rustic qualities ... as all great links courses do. Make no mistake, this is one of Sweden's golfing crown jewels ........ worthy of its place on any list of great links courses.

Did you know?

Falsterbo Golf Club was formed in 1909 on the initiative of keen golfer Erik Schweder, whose father was head of Malmö’s cycling club and also imported bicycles from England. Erik was sent over to learn the family business, and took the opportunity to play golf while in England.

Back in Sweden the duneland of Falsterbo was the obvious place to look for somewhere to continue playing. Erik and his friend Adolf Faxe started their search in the spring of 1909, and by October of that year had founded the golf club. Many members were recreational cyclists.
