Where2Golf says:

Golf Club Patriziale Ascona: With the look, feel and style of a top-quality private golf facility, the name "Patriziale Ascona" gives away the fact that the club was actually established and is ultimately run by the City of Ascona authorities. However, "municipal" is hardly a word you'd ascribe to this wonderfully laid out and excellently maintained golf venue. On relatively flat terrain, in sharp contrast to the towering mountains all around, this classical, tree-lined, parkland course weaves its way down to the banks of Lake Maggiore on a number of occasions. The par-4 16th and par-3 17th holes, are played directly alongside the stunning lake, with the 16th tee providing the best of the lakeside-mountain views; definitely a place to tarry awhile. The sometimes straight, at other times gently dog-legging holes ease their way through avenues of mature trees, with stylish bunkering also in play. Expansive, shallow bunkers play a key role in defending the fronts of the good-size and nicely undulating greens, placing an emphasis on high, precise shots onto the putting surfaces, rather than low, running approaches. Water is in play on only a few occasions, with the par-3 2nd and 17th holes, and the par-4 8th threatened by small, rock-fringed ponds. Without roads or real estate disturbing this quiet and tranquil environment, you will be able to concentrate on hitting the not-too-tight, not-too-generous fairways, while soaking up the pleasures of golfing beside Lago di Maggiore.

Did you know?

In the south of the Swiss canton of Ticino, you will find a wonderful golfing triumvirate, comprising the golf clubs of Ascona, Gerre Losone and Lugano. The first two are located in or close to the much visited town of Ascona. Lying on either side of the River Maggia, as it flows into enchanting Lake Maggiore, the neighbouring towns of Ascona (and Losone) on one side, and Locarno on the other, draw huge numbers of tourists from all over the world. In an immensely scenic Alpine setting, looking onto the lake and its surrounding mountains, you can enjoy a wonderful array of performing arts and cultural events. Every year Ascona hosts a much renowned jazz festival, called the New Orleans Jazz Festival Ascona. Dining at the restaurants on Ascona's lakeside Piazza Giuseppe Motta, is a treat not to be missed.
