King Island Golf & Bowling Club

3+ (3 gold): one of our top-rated 3-star courses, worthy of 3½ stars.

Where2Golf says:

King Island Golf & Bowling Club is often referred to as "Australia's best nine-hole course." Until recently it was also King Island's only golf course, and one of its best kept secrets. This spectacular "little" clifftop course seemed to fit well with the island's 75 km by 25 km dimensions. But all of a sudden the island is acquiring two world-class championship layouts in the form of Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes. Located on one of the hottest new golf destinations on the planet, King Island's "little gem" looks set for a busy future.

Both immensely scenic and seriously wind-prone, the layout is perched on cliffs looking directly onto the Great Southern Ocean. Although occupying the space of a nine-hole layout, there are 17 different tee boxes, 12 different greens and 10 different fairways. You are strongly encouraged to play the full "composite" course, which makes for an interesting 18-hole round of three par-3s, twelve par-4s and three par-5s.

With its steady stream of westerlies blowing across this authentic coastal links course, you game will be suitably challenged, while your senses can marvel at the exceptional ocean vistas. One of many highlights is the par-3 3rd, where you play from a clifftop looking out towards the ocean.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted. Perhaps the inspiration for Koksijde's new course came from a renowned Harry Colt layout that existed in the 1920s just a couple of kilometres to the west. Read more...
