Where2Golf says:
Khao Yai Golf Club (formerly Life Privilege Country Club and before that Mission Hills Khao Yai) is worth a visit, if only to experience another fine example of Jack Nicklaus's design work. But don't expect the rest of the resort facilities to match the quality of the course layout. The resort has clearly seen better days, with many of the outbuildings and condominiums now eerily empty and derelict. The resort does, however, remain popular with aficionados of well-designed golf layouts, and with large numbers of Koreans looking for a low-cost Stay & Play golf package. This pleasantly undulating layout, will give your game a thorough workout, while an immensely picturesque backdrop is provided by the cliffs and tightly folding hills of the Khao Yai region. The natural contouring of the land gives good definition to the gently undulating holes, sometimes accentuated by additional earthmounding, and a light sprinkling of maturing trees. Although the original bunkering seems rather modest for a Nicklaus design, there are some holes that do exude a sterner bunker threat. The excellent short par-4 7th is one such hole. The downhill 2nd is as good a par-5 as they come. From a wonderfully elevated tee box you'll play down onto the fairway, then risk as much water as you dare to get as close to the green as possible in two. For a long time now maintenance standards have varied from poor to adequate, but have not been at anything like the level you would normally expect from a well laid out Nicklaus design.

Khao Yai Golf Club was previously one of three Mission Hills resorts in Thailand, the other two are located in Phuket and Kanchanaburi, and still operate under the Mission Hills name. All three golf courses were Jack Nicklaus designs, commissioned by Mr Ngamjitsuksri, who previously had a stake in the Mission Hills development in Shenzhen, China. After its days as a Mission Hills Resort, and before becoming Khao Yai Golf Club, the facility was known as Life Privilege Country Club.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted. Perhaps the inspiration for Koksijde's new course came from a renowned Harry Colt layout that existed in the 1920s just a couple of kilometres to the west. Read more... |
The Duke Golf Club: represents the latest in a trio of private courses to arrive on the Dutch golfing scene. All prefixed by the definite article, The Dutch (2010, designer Colin Montgomerie) and The International (2012, Ian Woosnam) have now been joined by The Duke, which firmly targets a business clientele and the corporate golf market. Drentse Golfclub De Gelpenberg: as the oldest golf course in the Dutch province of Drenthe, De Gelpenberg offers a partly-wooded and partly-open heathland layout, guaranteed to test all facets of your game. It is arguably the best of the country's more northerly layouts, together with Lauswolt (50 km away to the north-west). Read more... |
Golfbaan Stippelberg: located 25 kilometres north-east of Eindhoven, this relatively new addition to championship golf in the Netherlands has fast become one of the country's "must play" courses. |
