Where2Golf says:

Doha Golf Club was, for many years, the only grass championship golf course in Qatar. But what the country lacked in quantity was more than compensated for by the quality of Peter Harradine's layout here. In more recent times, Qatar's capital city has benefitted from the addition of the Education City Golf Club, with its José Maria Olazábal-designed layouts.

Unmistakably a desert-style design, Doha Golf Club embraces the best characteristics of classic parkland golf, with nicely rolling fairways, occasional water hazards and splendid bunkering. Palms, a variety of other modest-sized trees and tall imported cacti (on the back-nine), all provide good definition to the pleasantly undulating holes. There is more grass here to aim at than on many desert courses, at least on the slightly longer front-nine. The back-nine is sculpted from limestone quarries, giving rise to many memorable holes. Like those on the front-nine, most are bordered by generous amounts of lush grassy semi-rough, before sandy wasteland comes into the reckoning. Finding your ball is not usually an issue, but playing from the hard-pan will require some adept shot-making.

With par-5s opening and closing both the inward and outward nines, and four demanding water-protected par-3s also in the mix, this is a course that will challenge you from first to last. But Doha will also reward you with one of the best golfing experiences in the Middle East, and a great view out over the course and desert beyond from the excellent clubhouse terrace.

Did you know?

Doha was one of the first grass golf courses to be built in the Middle East. Elsewhere in Qatar (e.g. Mesaieed and Dukhan) you can still find "sand" courses, where you play on fairways of sand that lead you to "browns" (rather than greens), created from a mixture of oil and sand.

Doha's championship course has regularly hosted the European Tour's Qatar Masters (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Doha).
