Where2Golf says:

Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club: In this relatively unspoilt and open desert landscape, you can sample a uniquely hybrid course - desert golf as it was originally played, but with considerable progress being made to introduce grassed surfaces, at least on the fairways. On most sand courses the entire game is played on sand, and that means fairways, greens (called 'browns') and obviously the bunkers. However, here at Sharjah Wanderers there is an on-going programme of converting the sand fairways to grass. To date the front-nine fairways have been grassed, with the back-nine, which skirts the undulating desert dunes, to be grassed at some future date. In amongst the gentle hills and valleys of this challenging layout, there are many well laid out golf holes, with the often steeply elevated browns placing a premium on accurate approach play. Sand golf may not be to everyone's liking, but it is always capable of giving your game a thorough workout, while this course in particular also provides a real sense of the wonderful desert environment (unlike many of its lush, villa-lined relatives in Dubai).

Other Information
Sharjah Wanderers is a walking-only course. | The etiquette of sand golf requires the following: only wear flat-soled shoes (e.g. trainers). Spiked shoes, including soft spikes are not permitted as they damage the greens (called browns). An artificial grass mat is used when playing from a fairway (marked by stakes). The browns must be brushed after putting out, large brushes are provided for this purpose.
