Bluewater Bay Golf Resort (Lake/Magnolia courses)

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1981

Bluewater Bay Golf Resort (Lake/Magnolia courses): With 36 championship golf holes available, you may find your round combines any two of Bluewater's four nine-hole loops - although the Lake/Marsh and Bay/Magnolia combinations seem to be most frequently used, we have chosen to highlight the Lake/Magnolia pairing, which is located away from the Bay and takes you into an attractive environment of small lakes and natural wetlands (we separately feature the Bay/Marsh pairing, which maximises the views out onto Choctawhatchee Bay) - the original, Fazio-designed Lake-nine gives you some of the best golf holes at Bluewater Resort, as well as an occasional touch of elevation change - the slightly uphill, blind drive at the very good par-4 1st gets the Lakes off to an impressive start - a fabulous stretch of holes includes the par-4 3rd and par-4 5th, both flanked from tee-to-green by a narrow lake, with the signature, downhill par-3 4th played across the lake - the Gerry Pate designed Magnolia-nine is the newest of Bluewater's quartet, and in many ways exudes the most natural feel - several holes are routed through woodland, where oaks, pines and magnolias line the way - sandy waste areas and good-quality bunkering often threaten, while occasional carries over wetland will be required on some holes - although you don't get bayside, you will enjoy some of Bluewater's best golfing challenges and natural scenery on the Lake/Magnolia layout.

Did you know?

Bluewater Bay Resort is located on the north shore of the expansive Choctawhatchee Bay, which appeared on early Spanish, French, and English charts as St Rose's Bay or Santa Rosa Bay. The 140-mile Choctawhatchee River flows down from southern Alabama and empties into the Bay, along with several other smaller rivers and streams. The name Choctawhatchee simply means "River of the Choctaws".
