Ashburnham Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1894

Ashburnham Golf Club is home to a links golf course with an impressive past, very solid credentials and a popular following among links devotees. From the opening hole, a good-length downhill par-3, to the closing uphill par-4, you will experience an enjoyable out-and-back links course, that's capable of giving every aspect of your game a thorough examination.

The terrain for much of the way round is relatively flat (with a few notable exceptions). Towering dunes border the course on the seaward side, rather than necessarily being integral to the layout; these sand hills do however provide much needed shelter when the wind is blowing at its fiercest.

Many holes are lined with gorse bushes, occasionally small trees and deep-rough, as you would expect on a seaside links course. In keeping with the best of Welsh seaside courses, the excellent greens are full of tricky slopes and undulations, on which your final score can be made or broken. On the 16th tee and 18th green you are rewarded with impressive views over Carmarthen Bay.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
