At the same location:

Nefyn is a layout with three nine-hole loops. Your front-nine usually comprises one of two alternatives: the "Old course" loop of clifftop holes is played closest to the sea. The "New course" front-nine loop takes you more inland. The back-nine comprises an incredibly scenic loop of clifftop holes, which head further out to sea on a dramatic headland.

Nefyn & District Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1907

Nefyn & District Golf Club: You will never tire of the spectacular and ever-present sea views here on this dramatic 27-hole clifftop course at Nefyn, even though the ever-present wind may well have gnawed into your bones by the time you finish. But don't be put off.

The opening nines (there are two alternatives) are played on a plateau above the cliffs, where the terrain is quite open, and a solid start can be made to your round. The "Old course" front-nine is played closer to the seashore; the holes of the "New course" take you further inland, but the sea views remain.

The closing nine-hole loop provides an opportunity to inspect the Irish Sea even more closely. You'll head seaward on a narrow strip of headland, playing alongside the cliffs' edge at times and sampling Nefyn's dramatic coastal scenery at close quarters. Although one or two of these holes are a little quirky, they will test your shot-making and course management especially when played for the first time, (but beware passing tourists and walkers, especially in the summer months).

With all this spell-binding ocean scenery, a very solid and well-maintained layout, and a golfing masterpiece at the par-4 13th, Nefyn is a golf course that you'll be talking about for years to come. Rather like golfing at Ireland's Old Head of Kinsale but at a fraction of the price.

Did you know?

Nefyn & District's golf course was converted from nine to 18 holes in 1912. After several modifications, a further nine holes were added in 1933. The present course consists of a choice between two opening nine-hole loops (the more seaward "Old course" loop, or the more inland "New course" loop), after which comes a dramatic clifftop nine-hole loop.
