Evans founded the Evans Scholars Foundation, providing qualified caddies with a fully funded college scholarship. The Foundation is operated by the Western Golf Association, and has benefitted well over 10,000 caddies.

Played as the Western Open (Aug 31-Sept 2; first year as a match play event). Charles "Chick" Evans (USA, amateur) beat Robert "Bob"/"Bobby" Simpson (Scot/USA) 6 and 5 in the 36-hole final. Evans became the first born and bred American golfer to win this title. [Beverly CC, Chicago, IL].
Presidents Cup: Geoff Ogilvy’s International Team take on Brandt Snedeker’s USA Team at the revered Medinah Country Club, near Chicago. The Internationals are trying to halt a run of 11 consecutive American wins. (Sept 24-27).
French Open: Continental Europe’s oldest national championship, dating from 1906, is once again staged on the Albatros Course at Le Golf National, near Paris. Defending champion is America’s Michael Kim. (Sept 24-27).
