Did you know?

Born in the coastal town of Bangor in Northern Ireland, David Feherty initially trained as an opera singer before turning to golf. He honed his golfing skills at Bangor Golf Club before becoming a professional in 1976 aged 17. His breakthrough wins on the European Tour came in 1986, when he won the Italian Open and the Scottish Open, both in playoffs.

In 1994 and 1995 Feherty played most of his golf on the PGA Tour, recording only two top 10 finishes in that time. Another season back in Europe in 1996 with limited success convinced him to retire from touring golf and switch his focus to commentary. He joined the CBS Sports team in 1997 as an on-course reporter and golf analyst, and has since enjoyed a high profile career as a television personality and writer. He became a naturalised US citizen in 2010.

Among his golf-related and non-related occupations, Feherty lists having been a raconteur (teller of tales), bipolar alcoholic and addict. In his own words, "the last two aren’t technically ‘jobs’ but I was just too successful at them to consider myself an amateur".
