Kirk started golf at the age of 12, crediting her parents as the individuals most influencing her career. Playing under her maiden name of Katherine Hull until August 2012, Kirk notched up several wins on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour between 2005 and 2011. She enjoyed breakthrough wins on the LPGA Tour in the 2008 Canadian Women's Open, and on the Ladies European Tour in the 2009 ANZ Ladies Masters (played in Australia).
