Roll of Honour

European Tour wins (1).

Did you know?

Boxall recorded his only win on the European Tour at the 1990 Italian Open. He is perhaps better remembered for a far more painful event, when he broke his leg during the 1991 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The stress fracture had been slowly but irritatingly building up during the previous three or four days. Teeing off at the ninth hole in the third round, just two shots off the lead, Boxall hit a solid 1-iron tee shot. The ball landed on the fairway alongside that of playing partner Colin Montgomerie, but Boxall had already collapsed to the ground. The solid hit was accompanied by his left leg painfully fracturing. The injury put Boxall out of action for the best part of a year, and probably affected his game for a long time thereafter.

After retiring from tournament golf some years after the 1991 injury, 'Boxie' took up television commentary. He has become a much-liked member of the Sky Sports team, known for his insightful analysis, wit and joviality.
