Jones attended Ohio State University where in 1981 she was an AIAW All-American. She turned professional in 1982, gaining qualification to play on the LPGA Tour in the same year. Her 13 LPGA Tour wins, spanning from 1987 to 2003, were accompanied by four second-place finishes in LPGA major championships.
Jones retired from the main tour in 2006, which was marked by leaving her golf shoes, visor and glove alongside the 18th green at the conclusion of the U.S. Women's Open.
