Club de Golf Cap-Rouge

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1959

Club de Golf Cap-Rouge: Top-quality golf courses around Québec City are not so numerous, but here at Cap-Rouge you'll find one of the best and most accessible. This well-maintained and enjoyable layout lies close to the St Lawrence River in a quiet residential neighbourhood. River views and riverside holes will not feature in your round, but this good-looking and well-presented course will test and probe your game in an attractive parkland setting.

The walkable terrain is home to a pleasant mix of straightaway and gently doglegging holes that meander out-and-back in two nine-hole loops. Only at the start and finish of each nine, will you encounter some modest elevation change. Any housing hereabouts is set well back from the course; out of sight and out of harm's way for the most part.

The majority of holes at Cap-Rouge are pleasantly tree-lined, but not densely so. Ball-finding if you are wayward should not be too problematic, unless you stray well beyond the tree-lined course perimeter. On a few occasions ponds sidle up alongside the greens, not least at three of the four par-3s. Also to be reckoned with around the greens and along several fairways is a stylish array of sand-faced, tongued bunkers.

This attractive and well-crafted course, offers an enjoyable round of golf in a pleasant and quiet parkland environment. If you want a longer and tougher challenge, then you'll need to cross the St Lawrence River and head a few kilometres down one of its tributaries (the Chaudière River) to La Tempête Golf Club.

Did you know?

Cap-Rouge is located on the outskirts of Québec City, one of the most charming and historic cities in Canada. Québec is the city's official name in both French and English, although Québec City is more commonly used to differentiate the city from the province. The city's most famous landmarks include the very impressive Château Frontenac, a Fairmont hotel which dominates the skyline, and La Citadelle, a large intact fortress. The old parts of the city, both Upper and Lower, are understandably a magnet for tourists, full of charming hotels, excellent restaurants, scenic outlooks and historic buildings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
