Surrey Downs Golf Club: Measuring just 6,300 yards off the back tees, this very pleasant parkland course was obviously not intended for professional tournaments, but it will give any club or weekend golfer an excellent workout.
With generally long par-3's (countering several short-ish par 4's), a few blind drives to sloping fairways and very unforgiving long grass beyond the semi-rough, Alliss's design contains more than its fair share of golfing challenge. The course is usually in excellent condition and its elevated position in this area of folding downland provides wonderful, but often windy views over the surrounding wooded hills.
The twist in the tail, as is often the case, comes at the 18th. This shortish par-5 incorporates a dangerous water hazard in front of a huge roller-coaster double green (shared with the 9th); this is just the sort of hole to wreck an otherwise decent scorecard or decide many a club match play.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.
Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.

Originally Eyhurst Farm, the land was purchased by the Cheale family in the early 1990's, and Peter Alliss was commissioned to design the golf course. The clubhouse dates from end 2003.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with five wins out of her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Winning the Chevron Championship also brought the second major championship win of her career.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
