Akureyri (Jadar)
The Akureyri Golf Course (Golfklúbbur Akureyrar) is located in the north of Iceland, a six-hour drive from Reykjavik. The 18-hole course is laid out in an area called Jadar, and is often referred to as such. The wonderfully natural setting provides a spectacular view of the surrounding hills and countryside.
Described by the club as an open moorland course, the par-71 layout meanders around and over broad ridges, broken up by small clusters of trees and rock outcroppings. Although "moorland", the course has a more parkland appearance than many others in the country. There are more trees, shrubs and other plants in evidence, and less fairway-lining lava flows than you'll find elsewhere.
Although the club claims to have the world's most northerly 18-hole golf course, there's one or two Norwegian courses (inside the Arctic Circle), and especially Tromso, that might dispute that. If the Arctic Circle was a physical entity, it would surely be seen from Akureyri.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends during the golf season (generally late-May thru early-Sept).
Must book in advance. Tee-times available until 10pm, and midnight golf in June/July on request.

Established in 1935, Akureyri is Iceland‘s second oldest golf club, only one year younger than Reykjavik Golf Club. After decades of travelling round various parcels of land, the club established its current home at the Jadar farm in 1970.
Akureyri Golf Club plays host to the annual Arctic Open golf tournament. Golfers from all over the world gather at this unique event during the summer solstice and play at least two organised rounds – at least one of them under the flaming red midnight skies.
The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with five wins out of her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Winning the Chevron Championship also brought the second major championship win of her career.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
