The Outeniqua at Fancourt

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1997

The Outeniqua at Fancourt: Here at one of South Africa's best known golf and leisure resorts, visiting golfers can enjoy three varied and challenging championship golf courses, as well as excellent practice and learning facilities. Of the three, the Montagu and Outeniqua courses are most closely related. Both are beautifully maintained parkland layouts that effortlessly meander across pleasantly undulating terrain.

The Outeniqua (meaning "land of milk and honey") is the shorter and some would say easier-going of the two parkland layouts. Like its sibling, it has many wonderfully designed holes that have benefitted from Gary Player's expert touch.

Stylish bunkering, fast undulating greens, plenty of elevation changes and the ever-present backdrop of the stunning Outeniqua mountains are all hallmarks of the Outeniqua. Plenty of trees and flowers, and several attractive water features and creeks also add to the undoubted charms of this layout.

Charming, yes, but also challenging as well. Several tightish fairways will demand accuracy from the tee, and water hazards are dangerously in play on several holes. Again in common with the Montagu, many of the holes are flanked, though never too closely, by distinctive Cape Dutch style villas, with their whitewashed walls and thatched roofs.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
