Mid South Club

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Mid South Club: The key golfing ingredients of the Talamore Golf Resort are the Talamore course itself, and its very attractive and challenging companion layout, the King's Course at the Mid South Club.

Mid South is a great example of Arnold Palmer drawing on his accumulated knowledge and pulling the stops out to design a layout that is both visually exciting, challenging and great fun to play. The front-nine gets off to a terrific start, especially as you take on the downhill, water-carry tee shot at the par-4 2nd. You then move into a partly-open, partly-wooded loop of holes that eventually returns to the clubhouse via a marvellous risk-reward par-5 9th, and a double-green shared with the 18th.

This excellent front-nine is full of dramatic and thought-provoking holes characterised by splendid undulation changes, boulder-lined water hazards, excellent bunkering and two great par-3's. The greens will thoroughly test your putting - often large, invariably sloping and undeniably fast.

The start of the back-nine sees the water and undulation changes of the front-nine replaced by significant bunkering and large sandy waste areas, not least at the par-3 11th and par-4 14th. Three long and flattish consecutive par-4's (starting with the 12th), don't provide much of a breather, before the closing stretch brings undulations and water back into play, most dangerously at the par-4 16th.

Throughout, the good-width fairways are lined with tall pines, though never too densely. A small amount of real estate makes a little impact on the naturalness of this course and its surroundings.
