Travel south on the N2 highway from Durban. Just before reaching Port Shepstone, take the Umtentweni turn-off. Follow the coast road (R102) through Umtentweni to golf, which will be indicated on your left.

The golf course at Port Shepstone Country Club has been described by a visitor to the Club as “the best kept secret on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast”. It is a nature lovers paradise that has a large selection of birdlife including fish eagle, egyptian geese, various species of stork and duck as well as many dyker roaming around, not to mention the monkeys.
The first nine holes are bushveld with a large variety of indigenous trees and mangroves lining the fairways and is considered by many to be the most beautiful section of the course. The second nine are more a links-style, quite open and wind exposed, with a number of water hazards.
All in all to play at Port Shepstone CC is an experience not to be missed. Although laid out close to the sea and the Mzimkulu River, there are seldom views of either, with the dense coastal vegetation screening them from the course.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Port Shepstone was founded in 1867 following the discovery of marble deposits nearby, and is named after Sir Theophilus Shepstone, a British-born South African statesman who worked closely with the native tribes in the second half of the 1800's.
William Bazley built a harbour at Port Shepstone and the first coaster entered the harbour on May 8, 1880. In 1882 a party of 246 Norwegian immigrants settled here and played a large part in the development of the area.
After the opening of the railway to Durban in 1901 the harbour fell in disuse and eventually the river silted up again making it impossible to use. The 27,000 candela lighthouse still stands at the mouth of the Mzimkulu River.
