Where2Golf says:
It is a thrill knowing that this famous old course, often called the Burmah Road, has staged countless top level golf tournaments and been home to the PGA and World Matchplay championships for more years than most can remember. It is an even bigger thrill to set out for a round here, and enjoy the golfing challenge that the West course always provides. Staying out of the trees and heathery rough that border the frequently tight and gently undulating fairways is key to scoring well. Add in some tough par 3’s (the first of which is a much copied gem), seriously impressive bunkering (especially around the greens) and several longish carries over the heather, and you'll begin to understand why a round on the West course is much sought after, and carries a reasonably hefty green fee. Presenting such a heavily played course in pristine condition is clearly a tough task for the greenkeepers, although usually one they meet with great success. Lasting memories invariably follow a round on the West course, or at least create the opportunity to recount some stories of what might have been, while taking in the undoubted pleasures of Wentworth's very impressive 19th hole.
