The Boulders Resort (South course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1985

The Boulders Resort (South course): The South course at Boulders Resort offers a fabulous golfing and scenic experience. The thrill of desert golf is wonderfully reflected here in the layout's 18 top-quality holes. While Boulder's North is the resort's original offering, many people believe the South to be the most captivating, with holes that go right up into the higher boulder formations.

The layout's pleasant undulations are home to several elevated teeing areas, as well as fast and true greens. From these elevated platforms you will enjoy wonderfully scenic desert and mountain vistas. During your round you will encounter the signature "Boulder Pile" and also "Rosie's Rock", two of the resort's most recognisable rock formations.

From a golfing standpoint the gently dog-legging par-4 1st sets the scene for a round that will include several lengthy carries onto tightish fairways. Precise approach work is then needed to steer your ball past the ever-tightening rock and desert terrain, and clear the greenside bunker-defences. If you enjoy being challenged and can only play one course on a visit to Scottsdale, then this is arguably the one to play.

Stay&Play at The Boulders: luxury onsite accommodation available, see Where2Stay section below.

Note: as of 2023 Boulder's North course was designated a member's course, generally playable only by members and their invited guests. Boulder's South course remains available to the public and resort guests.

Did you know?

All around at Boulders is the natural open terrain of the Sonoran Desert. While hunting in the desert brush for a wayward shot, golfers may catch a glimpse of a bobcat, rabbits, coyotes, desert quail, lizards or a javelina ("skunk pig"). Some of the boulder formations you'll see during your round pre-date the golf course ... by a mere 12 million years.

Published ranking

South course:
Arizona's 40th best course (Golf Digest, 2023/24).

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
