Yarra Yarra
The Yarra Yarra Golf Club: Located in the heart of Melbourne's fabulous "sandbelt" golf region, Yarra Yarra is one of the area's oldest and most prestigious golf clubs. From the late 1920s, when the club moved to its current home in Bentleigh East, Alex Russell's layout has been challenging and delighting golfers, be they top-class professionals or aspiring amateurs.
The round here gets off to a testing start, with the longest of Yarra Yarra's par-3s demanding an accurately played long iron or wood to hit the stoutly bunker-defended green.
Plenty of bushes and trees, large and small, give excellent definition to each hole, while a plethora of substantive saucer-shaped bunkering lies in wait along the good-width fairways and around the large and fast greens.
The front-nine of this excellent parkland layout, comprises three loops of holes that radiate out and back from the impressive clubhouse, which stands on the highest point of the course. The back-nine possesses slightly less elevation change, but still reflects the top-quality presentation and natural feel of one of Melbourne's best sandbelt courses.
Yarra Yarra is a private club. Outside visitor play is restricted. Overseas and interstate visitors should contact the Club to determine playing possibilities, which are generally available on Mon, Tues, Weds (pm), Thurs (am) and Fri.
Must book in advance. Proof of handicap and letter of introduction required.
Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted at all times. Golf carts available for hire.

Yarra Yarra is an aboriginal word meaning "flowing, flowing". Refurbished in 2007, the Yarra Yarra clubhouse, like the golf course, dates back to 1929.
Yarra Yarra GC has hosted many top national and regional tournaments, including the Australian Women's Open and Australian PGA championship (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Yarra Yarra).
