Fontana Golf Club

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1997

Fontana Golf Club is home to one of the best championship golf courses in Austria. This tree-lined and open parkland layout provides a wonderful test for your all-round game, with Doug Carrick's excellent design containing many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes.

This demanding, yet fair course, with its many stylish bunkers and not insignificant water hazards, is one of Austria’s best. A good-size man-made lake, complete with sandy beach alongside the clubhouse, makes for a testing finish. The par-3 17th and left-to-right doglegging par-5 18th both require tee shots across the lake. A must play if you are in the area.

Fontana's impressive clubhouse accommodates a restaurant, a pro shop, as well as a private fitness and spa area, which is complemented in the summer by the club’s own bathing lake with sandy beach.

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
