The Vintage Club

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1995

The Vintage Club: Beyond the impressive clubhouse lies an attractive parkland layout, perhaps one of the lesser known courses of Bangkok. There is nothing overly scenic or dramatic about Arthur Hills design, although the course exudes plenty of garden-like charm and is not without its challenges.

This reasonably compact and flattish layout allows you to look through from one hole to another, although thankfully the fairways are not set too closely together. A pleasant variety of maturing trees and a good-width of easy-going semi-rough separate the fairways where they do run parallel.

Some of the tighter holes will test your game from the tee, placing a premium on accuracy rather than raw power, while the use of several greenside and fairway-flanking ponds and small lakes will also encourage good course management rather than a Daly-esque "grip-it and rip-it" style of play.

The greens are on the small side, with bunkering around them occasionally going "deep", although the sand traps are more often quite shallow, in keeping with the fairway bunkers. The par 3's are not exceptional, but as on other parts of the course, scoring well cannot be taken for granted.

With nothing much to look at beyond the course perimeter your full attention can be given to enjoying this agreeable parkland layout, and taking in its pleasant array of flora and birdlife on the way round.
