Hulencourt

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1988

Hulencourt (formerly known as Golf Club d'Hulencourt) seeks to promote the best of lifestyle and golf opportunities, with considerable ongoing investment by the owners in its golf and non-golf facilities. The club's championship Vallon course received a major revamp in the 2018/19 timeframe, adding to its credentials as one of the best of Belgium's "newer" parkland courses.

Located in a pleasantly rural farmland environment, the championship Vallon course is kept company by the club's nine-hole pitch-and-putt Verger course. The Vallon occupies relatively open, gently undulating terrain. Much attention has been paid to creating a variety of golfing challenges, with water, OB, swaying fescues and substantive bunkering all playing their part. Generous-width fairways and well-maintained subtly sloping greens are the surfaces you'll want to hit.

Several holes embrace a line of small lakes that run through the lower part of the course, with the two front-nine par-3s making good use of these ponds. Around the greens, the slick run-off areas will test your short game skills.

Extensive modifications to the golf course in 2018/19 have created a top-quality Tour player's course, at just over 7,300 yards from the tips. For lesser mortals, the remaining four sets of tees provide a more manageable test. Under the guiding hand of owner Patrick Solvay (of the Solvay chemical company family), Hulencourt seeks to promote much more than golf, with music, fitness and the arts also to the fore.
