Dundarave Golf Course

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Rodd Brudenell River Resort (Dundarave course): Two of Prince Edward Island's finest layouts can be found in a riverside setting at the Brudenell River resort. The bigger dimension Dundarave wraps around its sister, the Brudenell River course, in a sweeping arc of predominantly woodland holes.

Although the Brudenell River course arguably has the best of the riverside holes, its Dundarave sibling (younger by 30 years) is the more impressive and muscular layout. It too gets you riverside for three holes as it journeys around its sibling in an out-and-back format. The Dundarave's waterside holes come at the heavily bunkered par-3 5th, short par-4 8th and doglegging par-4 9th; all wonderfully scenic holes.

Whether riverside or in the woodland and wetland areas, Dundarave is at all times a wonderfully natural layout. Its distinctive earth-red cavernous bunkers loom large along the fairways. They also pose a significant threat around the excellently paced subtly-sloping greens. Although one or two holes lack a significant "wow" factor, the majority are handsomely crafted, scenic and designed to test your skills to the full.

With no housing or roads around the course, the roaming Dundarave offers a blissfully natural golfing experience with many wonderful views onto the Brudenell River (in addition to its three directly riverside holes). The elevation changes are never overly dramatic, except at the downhill par-3 17th, which sports a lavish front-right bunker and a picturesquely varied backdrop.

Located 35 km to the north is another Rodd Resorts family member, the Links at Crowbush Cove. The Dundarave vies with Crowbush for the island's top honours, although the latter typically gets the edge, based on its more varied layout and stunning coastal scenery.

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
