Northlands Golf Course

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1997

Northlands Golf Course: this very attractive layout in North Vancouver, although a public course, exudes all the look and style of a top-quality semi-private or private golf course. Laid out on the edge of a forest which journeys northwards to the summit of Mount Seymour, these 18 well-crafted and excellently maintained golf holes occupy pleasantly wooded slopes.

Northlands presents a well-crafted mix of challenging holes. From start to finish the design emphasises the naturalness of its forested mountainside setting. In this quiet and natural environment, where deer happily roam, most of the fairways are lined by tall Douglas firs, while others are crossed by creeks of varying sizes. Occasional rocky outcrops also define some of the holes.

From its higher elevations the layout offers scenic vistas out across pine covered hills and down towards Vancouver itself. The teeing grounds point you towards a mix of tightish and more forgiving fairways. You'll also need to make on one or two blind drives. The large and at times prodigiously sloping greens guarantee a thorough test of your putting skills.

The Northlands layout contains plenty of elevation change, not least at the par-4 1st and 10th, which both lead down and away from the clubhouse. The approach shot at the 10th is played to an island green, which is almost completely encircled by a reed-lined pond. Northlands is not just one of Vancouver's must play courses, but also one of its best in value terms.

Did you know?

Northlands Golf Course is located at the foot of the Mount Seymour Provincial Park. Behind the course the vast and unspoilt forests above Vancouver steadily rise up to Mount Seymour's summit (1449 m, 4754 ft). From there the forests continue their journey northwards, surrounding many other lakes and peaks of the North Shore Mountains. Mount Seymour itself provides one of Vancouver's popular ski and hiking areas; it was named in honour of Frederick Seymour, second governor of the Colony of British Columbia.
