Royal Park Golf "I Roveri" (Trent Jones Sr course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1971

Royal Park Golf "I Roveri" (Trent Jones Sr course, aka the Allianz course): Located just north of Turin, in the grounds of La Mandria Regional Park, is Royal Park "I Roveri", home to a much admired Robert Trent Jones Sr layout dating from 1971. The club also boasts a more recent arrival, the Hurdzan Fry course, also named after its designers, and formerly called the Pramerica course (after its sponsor, a subsidiary of Prudential, the American financial giant).

Don't let the relative maturity of the Trent Jones layout fool you. The course is regarded as one of the legendary designers's best in Europe, and one that is more than capable of testing today's European Tour professionals.

Spread across gently undulating terrain, this classical tree-lined and open parkland design contains one very good hole after another. Against a backdrop of stunning mountain scenery, you quickly confront the first of many water ditches and small lakes, instrumental in making this a challenging but fair test of golf.

In combination with its natural setting, excellent green-keeping and beautiful mountain views, Royal Park's original layout is a must if you are visiting the Piemonte region of Italy.

Did you know?

Located in the expansive and ancient hunting grounds of Parco La Mandria ("park of the herd"), you will find two almost adjoining golf clubs: Royal Park Golf "I Roveri" and Circolo Golf Torino (Turin Golf Club). The two layouts of Royal Park (the Trent Jones Sr and Hurdzan Fry courses) are located just to the south of Torino Golf Club's two courses (the Blue and Yellow).

Royal Park I Roveri ("the oaks") includes a full array of country club facilities, including conference centre, fitness centre, swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, kids club and (naturally enough) a first-class restaurant.

The championship golf courses at Royal Park are separately designed by two renowned names in golf course architecture. The "Old" course was laid out by the peerless Robert Trent Jones Sr, while the club's newer layout was designed by Michael Hurdzan and his partner Dana Fry, regarded among the elite of more recent American designers.
