Moonah Links (Legends course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2003

Moonah Links (Legends course): Complementing the more prestigious Open Course at Moonah Links, the Legends is a bit of a curate's egg - mixing some opening and closing "parkland" holes with an excellent stretch of more open links holes furthest out from the clubhouse.

On the Legends you'll quickly get used to a course which feels tighter than its bigger brother, and a bit more rustic - many bunkers appear naturally hewn from the sandy bumps and hollows, rather than being beautifully sculpted as on the Open course.

The elevation changes and the more linksy holes create the interest; the large sloping greens (one measuring 63 metres from front to back) could induce a frustration factor if you are trying to card a good score.

Overall a pleasant course with some fine holes and nice rural countryside views, even if it takes a few holes to establish what kind of golfing experience this layout is going to provide!

Did you know?

The Legends course is so named as a tribute to past Australian Open champions who have contributed to the rich history of Australian golf.

The Moonah tree (melaleuca lanceolata) is found in most areas of south-east Australia, and once covered much of the Mornington Peninsula. With its dark green canopy and grey / brown trunk the Moonah is a small tree, rarely growing much more than 10 metres in height.

Published ranking

Australia's 43rd best course (Australian Golf Digest, 2022/23).
