Moonah Links (Open)
Moonah Links (Open course): The most formidable course in Australia? Off the back tees with the wind blowing (as it often does) even the best Aussie professionals struggle to break par. Like many of the great British and Irish links courses, its a tough one for amateurs, but unmissable and thrilling to play.
The wonderful layout comprises many elevated tee-boxes and greens, good-width fairways and plenty of bunkering - some of it in the middle of the fairways (and not just small pot bunkers either).
Putting on the huge, sloping greens may be a humbling experience, but the excellence of the undulating layout, combined with the splendid setting will keep you enthralled all the way round. Wineries, rural countryside and occasional box-shaped villas lie beyond the course, enhancing its rolling openness.
Peter Thomson was given a prime site on which to establish a fitting seaside links venue for the Australian Open. Apart from the absence of sea views, he created everything you would hope for in a world class links course.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.
Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted. Golf carts available for hire.

Home of the Australian Golf Union, the Australian Golf Academy and frequent venue for the Australian Open championship (see Tournaments section - by Venue).
The Moonah tree (melaleuca lanceolata) is found in most areas of south-east Australia, and once covered much of the Mornington Peninsula. With its dark green canopy and grey / brown trunk the Moonah is a small tree, rarely growing much more than 10 metres in height.
Australia's 47th best course (Australian Golf Digest, 2022/23).

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with five wins out of her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Winning the Chevron Championship also brought the second major championship win of her career.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
