Travel south on the N2 highway from Durban. Take the Umkomaas off-ramp and turn left at the stop sign. Follow signs to golf course.

Umkomaas Golf Club: Laid out on relatively undulating terrain, Umkomaas is mainly played in a parkland environment of tree-lined fairways.
There are several quite steep holes, with significant elevation changes, which provide a serious stretch of the legs as you journey round, but also gives you some beautiful views onto the Indian Ocean.
At one point the layout just about gets you down to, but not quite alongside the sea's edge. Umkomaas is recommended by local golfers as an enjoyable, physically demanding (if walked) and very natural layout.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Umkomaas is the home club of the world-ranked South African professional golfer, Tim Clark.
The coastal town of Umkomaas was developed in 1861 on a hill crowning the Mkomazi River's southern bank. In its early days a harbour was constructed for the purpose of exporting sugar. Nowadays, the town's colonial-style architecture has become "base camp" for scuba divers from around the world.
Five kilometres offshore from Umkomaas lies the internationally-renowned Aliwal Shoal - a fossilised sand dune of sponges, and soft and hard coral. The shoal first came to prominence when it sank the steamer Nebo in 1884. This wreck was joined a century later by that of the Produce; together they add an interesting dimension to this kilometre-long diver's paradise.
Aliwal Shoal attracts not only a wide variety of warm and cold-water fish, but also many Ragged-Tooth sharks. A large number of dive companies, plus underwater- themed accommodation, restaurants and taverns bear witness to Aliwal Shoal's popularity.
