Tamahka Trails Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2000

Tamahka Trails Golf Club: As part of the Paragon Resort & Casino, Tamahka Trails is home to another wonderfully natural course on the Audubon Golf Trail. No housing intrudes on a layout that is surrounded by attractive woodland. The course comprises a flatter, more open front-nine and a more undulating, tree-lined, back-nine.

Meaning alligator in Native American, Tamahka's bite is not to be found in the generous-width fairways of the front-nine loop. That said, you'll need to avoid many stand-out, high-lipped, grass-fronted bunkers that stylishly break-up the flattish terrain. There is something rather special about the signature par-4 7th hole, with its excellent bunkering, meandering stream and tight, tree-lined entrance to the green.

The back-nine arguably contains the best of the holes (including three excellent par-3s). The stunning par-3 15th is perhaps the most photographed hole on the course; from an elevated tee, a stream must be crossed en route to the superbly bunkered, false-fronted green.

At times creating something of a lunar landscape, some of the crater-like traps take on cavernous proportions, especially as you approach the greens. Some tighter drives await on the back-nine, and beware holes like the short par-4 14th. It might lack sand or water defences, but the slick run-offs around the not overly large green could cause a few problems.
