TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Hoot course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2001

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley is home to three wonderfully contrasting 18-hole championship layouts: the links-style Heathlands course, the "Carolina-influenced" Hoot and the more parkland oriented North course. Each is ranked in Canada's Top100 courses, with all three layouts playing home to several pleasantly testing and stylishly crafted holes

The Hoot course is an open, wasteland-style course, which might at times have you thinking you've journeyed to the Carolina sandhills. The layout features large yet playable sandy waste areas, rough-edged bunkers and plenty of tall fairway-lining pines. The Hoot takes you on a wonderfully natural and scenic journey through many pleasantly tree-lined avenues as well as into occasional areas of open rolling dunes. There's variety in abundance in this layout, and a not insignificant amount of elevation change.

With good-width fairways and several reachable par-5s and shorter par-4s there's chances to score well here. The Hoot will reward aggressive lines taken from the tee, but there's also a host of approach shots and green complexes that demand your full concentration to land safely on the excellent greens. The greenside bunkering and occasional water hazards loom large on some holes.

Pick of the holes: with its two cascading water features, and a choice of two routes to the green, the short par-4 17th is at the centre of a strongly water-defended final trio.

Did you know?

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (formerly known as the Osprey Valley Resorts) became Canada's first TPC facility in 2018. For all but its first year of its existence, Osprey Valley has been owned by brothers and real estate developers Roman and Jerry Humeniuk.

When the club opened in 1992, it had only one course, the links-style Heathlands. Less than a year later financial difficulties forced the original owner to sell to the Humeniuks, who operated the club as a family concern. In 2001 they added the Hoot and North (formerly Toot) courses.

The origins of the deal with the Tournament Players Club (TPC) was a by-product of Golf Canada’s search for courses in the Greater Toronto Area that would be willing and able to host future Canadian Open Championships.

Published ranking

Hoot course:
Canada's 41st best course (SCOREGolf, 2022) and 16th best public access course (SCOREGolf, 2023).
