Las Lagunas Country Club Est. 1989

Where2Golf says:

Las Lagunas Country Club: Formerly known as Cayacoa Country Club, two expansive nine-hole loops, laid out on undulating, wooded terrain, make up the testing course of Las Lagunas - the Campo Nacional de Golf. Housing doesn't intrude on the course, but lining most of the holes you'll find tall trees and dense vegetation, continually accenting the need for accuracy. On both nines you'll be challenged and tested by a number of tee-shots, with several tight driving lines to thread the ball down, and one or two blind holes in the mix as well. Small lakes also make their presence felt, more so on the back-nine. The short par-3 11th requires a tee-to-green carry over water; another pond lies in front of the par-4 12th green, swallowing up any approaches hit too short. The change in elevation and narrow fairways will make you think twice before hitting some shots, and give you a chance to take in the scenic views beyond the course.

Did you know?

Before Christopher Columbus's arrival in 1492, the Taíno people populated the island, which they called Bohio. The Tainos referred to the eastern part of the island as Quisqueya (land of great plains); the western side was known as Ayiti (land of mountains). At the time of Columbus's arrival the island was divided into five Taino chiefdoms, one of whose rulers was called Cayacoa (the original name of Las Iguanas Country Club). Columbus re-named the whole island Hispaniola, which was to eventually separate into a French-speaking western third (now Haiti), and a larger Spanish-speaking eastern territory (now Dominican Republic).
