Collingtree Park Golf Club: Located just outside the famous shoe-making town of Northampton, Collingtree Park has more in common with an American resort-style layout than a classically English parkland course. Perhaps this isn't such a surprise, with American golfing legend Johnny Miller designing the course - his first layout in the UK.
Several ponds, small lakes and water-filled ditches ensure the presence of water on over half the holes, while earthmounding beyond the fairways provides good definition to the holes in the more open areas of the course. There are several tight drives to be made, occasionally with houses flanking the holes, although it is more frequently water that will occupy your mind from the tee.
Both nines finish with a tough approach shot; a ditch fronts the green at the par-5 9th, while the par-5 18th requires a deft approach onto a water-surrounded island green. No one ever said Johnny Miller design's were easy ! Bunkering makes its presence felt from time to time, although maintaining the pressure on your course management and shot-making is more usually entrusted to the water hazards and tightish drives, rather than a plethora of fairway or greenside bunkering.
On the back-nine, traffic noise from the busy A45 road might provide a slight distraction, although the terrific closing holes, not least the par-4 17th and par-5 18th, will keep you fully focused on the golfing job at hand.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and after 12:30pm on weekends.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
