Herons' Reach Golf Resort

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1994

Herons' Reach Golf Resort: With an onsite hotel (formerly part of the De Vere Hotels collection) Herons' Reach offers a Stay&Play golf opportunity just outside Blackpool, one of England's best known seaside resort towns.

Although set in a 236-acre lakes and parkland estate, this Peter Alliss/Clive Clark design has a distinctly open, almost links-style feel. Woven into the nicely landscaped, but not overly undulating terrain, you'll need to avoid ten small lakes and a mass of grass-fronted bunkering. Often tightish fairways lead you to the USGA specification greens, home to many subtle breaks and borrows.

Located just 3 miles from Blackpool's town centre, the famous Blackpool Tower can be seen at various points of the course, with the best view at the 14th hole. Numerous PGA North Region Championship events have been staged on the course over the past decade.

Stay&Play at Heron's Reach: onsite accommodation available, see Where2Stay section below.

Did you know?

The seaside town of Blackpool is renowned for its dependence on tourism. In its heyday, which stretched from the early 1900s through to the late 1950s, Blackpool boomed as the workers of England's industrial north flocked there en masse for their summer holidays.

Today Blackpool remains the most popular seaside resort in the UK, although many visitors stay for weekends rather than holidaying for a full week. Reputedly, the town still has more hotel and B&B beds than the whole of Portugal.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with five wins out of her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Winning the Chevron Championship also brought the second major championship win of her career.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.

Prince's Golf Club, Kent (UK)
