Piltdown Golf Club

4-star: generally an excellent standard golf course, well worth visiting.

Where2Golf says:

Piltdown Golf Club: This pleasant wooded heathland layout occupies a high plateau location on the Sussex Weald. There is nothing overly dramatic or spectacular about the course: scenic views are limited, there are no sand bunkers and only a few water hazards. But don't think all will be plain sailing. Stray too far offline and you'll doubtless find the abundance of heather and occasional gorse that lines the fairways.

Although a bit on the short side, Piltdown is a good challenge for golfers of any level. Although an absence of sand bunkers, various contemporary accounts and drawings suggest there were some in the early days. Nowadays it's the heather that provides the layout's main defence. Over the last few years the removal of several trees has contributed to opening-up the course and returning it to closer to its original form. And with that work come improved views of the course and the surrounding countryside, including the beautiful Piltdown Pond.
