Linna Golf

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2005

Linna Golf is home to one of the best championship golf courses in Finland. This predominantly tree-lined parkland layout, located close to but not directly alongside the Katumajärvi lake, provides a excellent test for your all-round game.

Tim Lobb's design weaves through an expansive and undulating environment, with plenty of elevation change, and tall birch and pines defining many of the holes. The good-width fairways are not overly troubled by water, but plenty of attractive bunkers and sometimes penal rough also line the way as you journey towards the extravagantly large greens. There's many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes to enjoy in the Linna championship layout.

Did you know?

Linna Golf is laid out in the grounds of the Vannajanlinna Estate and the historic Äikäälä farm, which dates back to the Middle Ages. The baronnial castle, which now serves as Linna's onsite hotel, was not constructed until the late-1910s, when Dr Carl Wilhelm Rosenlew bought the Äikäälän farm. In 1998 Vanajanlinna was bought by Mika Walkamo and Pekka Vihma, who set about developing the Stay&Play concept that Linna now offers.

Published ranking

Finland's 4th best course (Golf Digest, 2022).
Continental Europe's 96th best course (Golf World, 2025).

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
