Golf de Montpellier Massane

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1988

Golf de Montpellier Massane: This pleasant parkland course plays through two contrasting environments, creating rather different golfing experiences. Laid out on relatively flat terrain by Ron Fream, the opening stretch of holes are lined by holiday homes. Staying out of back gardens, swimming pools and frequent "on course" water hazards is a key demand, especially for seriously wayward hitters.

Things start changing at the 4th hole and by the time you get to the back-nine the houses have been replaced by pleasant rural countryside. Most of the course enjoys this more open and inviting feel, albeit without too much in the way of elevation change and undulations. Small mounds and good bunkering are used to break up the flatness of the layout, complemented by several dangerous water hazards. A small river (La Cadoule) creates a formidable hazard at the 8th, 9th and 18th holes.

Like nearby Montpellier Fontcaude and La Grand Motte, Montpellier Massane is a pleasant course to play. However, tougher tests await in the South of France as you head east into the Cote d'Azur.
