Le Golf National (Aigle course): Home to an undoubted treasure in the form of the Robert Von Hagge designed (Ryder Cup) Albatros course, Golf National is also home to something of an "enfant terrible" on adjoining land, designed by Frenchman Hubert Chesneau.
Many holes on the Aigle (Eagle) course are characterised by thin green slivers of fairway, laid out between dune-like mounds of dense and often impenetrable rough. There is limited evidence of a helpful band of semi-rough, which might soften the stress of having to hit arrow straight tee shots on most holes. The Club's current literature talks about the Aigle's "wide" fairways, so it's quite possible the course has been made more "golfer-friendly" in recent times. After the opening few holes, much of the course occupies flatter ground, and is played over open, links-style terrain.
Beyond the course the scenery encompasses open country on one side and a small aerodrome on the other. The Aigle certainly provides a testing and rewarding golfing adventure, but ensure you take plenty of spare balls, just in case those "wide" fairways are a little bit tighter than you would like to see.
