Quellness Golf Resort (Porsche course)

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1989

The Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, with five 18-hole courses, is split between two large areas to the north and south of the town of Bad Griesbach. To the south you will find the championship Beckenbauer course (a European Tour course) and its "little brother", the Porsche course. To the north of the town, and each with their own clubhouse, are the much revered Brunnwies layout, as well as the Uttlau and Lederbach courses. Here you will also find the resort's "Golfodrome," which is home to three 9-hole courses (Engled, Jagl & Pfeiffer), a 6-hole course and the resort's Golf Academy.

The Porsche course at Quellness Golf Resort is located directly adjacent to the Beckenbauer course. In a "little brotherly" sense it ideally complements the longer and tougher Beckenbauer (which has regularly hosted European Tour events). Wider fairways help to create a less intimidating feel, but there's still plenty of water and stylish bunkering to be avoided.

Occupying similar terrain, the Porsche (formerly known as the Mercedes-Benz course!) contains many excellent holes. The good-length par-4 4th is especially interesting; it doglegs to the left alongside the river Rott with a challenging second shot to a green protected by a stream. Also posing a special challenge is the peninsula-green at the par-3 13th, and the par-4 16th and 18th holes, both with water unnervingly in play.

Did you know?

Sitting alongside the Porsche course at the Quellness Resort, is the 18-hole Beckenbauer course, also designed by world-class golfer Bernhard Langer. The Beckenbauer (named after German football's "Kaiser", Franz Beckenbauer) served as host venue for the Porsche European Open, a European Tour event, in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, the course was also the setting for the Paul Lawrie Matchplay, and from 2013 to 2015 it hosted European Challenge Tour events for three consecutive years.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
