Where2Golf says:

Killarney Golf & Fishing Club (Killeen Course): Of the two championship golf courses at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, the Killeen is generally regarded as the flagship course, ahead of the Mahony's Point layout. The Killeen also plays host to top-level professional tournaments played at Killarney, Irish Opens included.

The excellent opening lakeside stretch gets the Killeen course off to a flying start. Here you'll play some of the layout's most memorable holes, tightly hugging the expansive and stunningly beautiful Lough Leane. To the south on the opposite shore, Ireland's highest mountain range, Macgillycuddy's Reeks, impressively climbs to over 1,000 m above sea-level. The tight doglegging par-4 5th takes you away from the lake, but you'll return for the wonderful lakeside par-3 10th. Much of the back-nine is laid out just back from the lake, where many holes occupy a gently undulating area of open parkland, liberally dotted with mature trees and pockets of woodland.

After some potentially bruising encounters on south-west Ireland's wind-blown links courses, you may look for a less dramatic and potentially more tranquil parkland alternative. The Killarney courses, and especially the Killeen, gives you that opportunity. At the same time you can soak up a different style of stunning Irish scenery, based on a beautiful lake and impressive mountains, rather than on the ocean and towering sand dunes.
