Circolo Golf Torino - La Mandria (Blu course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1920

Circolo Golf Torino, La Mandria (Blu course): Co-located just north of Turin in the former royal hunting grounds of La Mandria Regional Park, you will find two of northwest Italy's best known golf clubs. Each club is home to two championship courses. In the most northerly section of the park is Circolo Golf Torino (Turin Golf Club), with its Blue and Yellow courses.

The club moved to this La Mandria site in 1956, where English architect John Morrison laid out the first 18-hole course. Sitting just beneath Turin Golf Club is Royal Park "I Roveri", with layouts by Robert Trent Jones Sr and Michael Hurdzan.

Occupying the central part of Torino's 36-hole complex, the Blue course offers a classical parkland layout, incorporating many of the fine features that also make the Yellow course a delight to play. On the Blue, some of the most threatening water hazards come early, especially at the par-5 opener, the par-4 3rd and later at the par-3 13th.

Although you may feel there's a bit more room for your drives on the Blue layout, it also has plenty of tree-lined holes that require accuracy from the tee. Anything too wayward will likely cost you a shot as you punch back-out to the appropriate fairway.

It can be argued that the Yellow course has a little more character than the Blue, with its many sharply dog-legging holes. But in most respects the two courses are identical twins. It's only when you get better acquainted with them, that you'll begin to appreciate their subtle differences.
