Where2Golf says:

Pebble Beach Golf Links: Perhaps only the Old Course St Andrews and Augusta National command the acclaim and adoration that is heaped on the Pebble Beach Golf Links. With its fabulous layout, constant challenges and spectacular views onto three separate coves (beautiful Stillwater Cove is the middle one of the three), Pebble Beach is quite simply the best course in the world, in the opinion of many golfers.

The Pacific Ocean views are spectacular from start to finish, the layout and presentation of the course superb, and the not overly large greens as testing as any you will ever putt on. The bunkering is also fearsome, something quickly realised if you enter the deep and cavernous cross-bunker at the par-5 2nd. The layout of these famous golf links is generally quite open, allowing the stunning ocean and beach views to be enjoyed throughout.

Among the treasure trove of golf holes, are some of the best known in the world. The short par-3 7th, played out to a rocky promontory with its green surrounded by bunkers, is as short, majestic and scary as they come. The par-4 8th has a nerve-jangling carry to make across a deep oceanic chasm, before you find the safety of the green; the beach below awaits anything hit short or right. Ask golfers to name the world's best closing par-5 and the 18th at "Pebble" regularly tops the list; go too far left on this hole and your next shot might be played from the rocky foreshore.

Playing Pebble Beach is undoubtedly one of golf's greatest experiences, even though a small mortgage might be needed to pay the hefty green fee. But once you've paid it, don't look back. Just look forward to a thrilling and incredibly scenic round of golf. To tour Pebble Beach click on the video below.

Where2Golf latest updates

Courses:

Muirfield: after 273 years, the Honourable Society of Edinburgh Golfers does the honourable thing and opens its doors to women members.
Harbour Town: Hilton Head Island’s No.1 course prepares to host the Heritage Classic (RBC Heritage) for the 49th time.

Tournaments:
Masters Tournament: first major championship of the men’s season ends (as ever) in high drama, and sees its third Spanish winner i.e. Sergio Garcia.
ANA Inspiration: first major of the year, and yet another example of an armchair viewer and shameful rules interpretations trampling on the true spirit of golf.

Who's Who:
Sergio Garcia: After 74 starts in major championships, and on the late Seve Ballesteros’s 60th birthday, Sergio wins his first major at Augusta National.
Lexi Thompson: deserving winner of a second major championship, but denied by the fiasco finish at the ANA Inspiration.
