Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2008

Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club: this relative newcomer to the golfing scene in Johor is part of a master-planned golf and real estate development. Here you'll find an excellently crafted, but very watery Ross Watson layout.

If you're happy with the preponderance of water hazards, there's plenty to admire in this flowing and well-maintained layout. But there's not too much to look at beyond the course boundary except residential housing, lightly screened by a pleasant variety of indigenous trees.

Described as a "breathtaking and challenging piece of art within a 1,200-acre freehold township development" there's no denying the layout has been excellently crafted. The holes make a clockwise loop around a housing sub-division on the front-nine, and head out-and-back in pairs on the back-nine.

All the while water is a constant threat, usually running the full length on one side of the holes, or sometimes cutting across the fairways in the form of good-width ditches. It almost goes without saying, all the par-3s are played alongside water, except the short par-3 16th ... that's the one with an island-green!
