Starhill Golf & Country Club (Bukit course)

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1993

Starhill Golf & Country Club (Bukit course): Starhill's Bintang course is usually the first choice to stage bigger tournaments. Its companion, the Bukit course, is similar in length at over 7100 yards from the back tees, and is also a testing and very pleasant parkland layout. With generally more width from the tee, fewer trees and less water in play, the Bukit is usually regarded as the easier-going layout, but is certainly not without its challenges. At times feeling quite open, the Bukit (meaning "hill") has some pronounced elevation changes, more so than on the Bintang (which means "star"). The most dramatic hole is the downhill par-4 3rd, where a tilt at the green may look inviting to big-hitters, but a small lake guards the front of the green, and a watery end usually befalls such attempts. Like its companion, the Bukit is also characterised by large greens, with copious bunkering around them. If you dodge the greenside bunkers, then steep run-offs provide an additional hazard to punish wayward approach shots. The two courses share another common feature, a 5-pointed star-shaped island green; on the Bukit this comes at the end of the par-5 8th hole. Just in case you think the good-width fairways will give you an "easy-ride" from start to finish, there are some knee-trembling drives to make on the often tighter back-nine, not least at the long par-4 13th and par-5 14th. Dense jungle, which used to border many parts of the course, has regrettably been replaced by a huge housing development. The former natural and scenic views from the course have been dramatically impacted; no longer will your game be observed by families of monkeys.
